Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to Retire

Microsoft announced in a statement that their CEO and 30th empolyee of the company, Steve Ballmer, is to retire within the next 12 month triggering a search for a successor to take over the this tech giant.

Most people believe that this will be a good chance for Microsoft to get back on track as the company’s stock has been in steady decline for the past few years. Yje main factor being that the company was losing customers to do the shift from desktop to mobile which has benefited companies such as Apple and Google to rise above the revolution and take huge market shares.

Following the announcement, Microsoft shares have rose by 8.9% to $35.27 in pre-market trading.

The company’s board of directors has appointed a special committee to direct the process of selecting a new CEO chaired by independent director John Thompson and including Gates, Chuck Noski and Steve Luczo.

Microsoft said it is working with Heidrick & Struggles International, an executive recruiting firm, and will consider both external and internal candidates.
