Protests erupted in Denmark after government’s announcement on banning face veils. This law grants the police power to remove a niqabi from a public place or order her to reveal her face.
Niqabi, non-niqabi Muslim women and non-muslim Danes are marching through the streets. They will all be wearing face veils to stand behind women’s right to express their identities in whatever way.
Justice Minister, Soren Pape Poulsen, said that officers will be able to walk up to niqabi women and fine them. The fines will range from 1,000 Danish crowns (€134) for the first offense to 10,000 crowns (€1,342) for a fourth violation.
