It’s Jellyfish Season! Meet the 3 Species That Like the Red Sea as Much as You Do

It’s summertime! Which means some deep-sea visitors are arriving on the shores and spending the summer with us! We all love the sight of the sparkling, glowing jellyfish when the waves crash on their unique form and the sun rays shine on their transparent skin.

The Red Sea is known to be a stop on the way of the jellyfish’s journey through the sea, where they spend the summer before they go on their way.

Even though the number of jellyfish species is huge, the visitors of the Red Sea are just a few.

Rhopilema nomadica

Also known as the nomad jellyfish, it originally comes from the tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This type of jellyfish has vermicular filaments full of venomous stinging cells that can cause painful injuries to humans.

Cephea cephea

This one is also known as the crown fish and the cauliflower fish due to its form, and it originally comes from the Indo-Pacific and East Atlantic and appeared in Marsa Alam for the first time in 2016. It has been said that it is edible!

Cassiopea andromeda

The upside-down jellyfish; it usually lives in the intertidal sands and shallow lagoons and has its mouth facing upward, which is where it gets its name from. Its sting can cause mild pain, swelling and rash.
