In Pictures: Images From the Restored Version of Youssef Chahine’s 1985 ‘Al Wadaa’ Ya Bonaparte’

“Adieu Bonaparte”, or “Al Wadaa’ Ya Bonaparte” in Arabic, is a French/Egyptian movie that was directed by Egypt’s greatest director, Youssef Chahine, back in 1985. This movie was Chahine’s first European co-production that was later screened at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival. The movie portrayed the Napoleonic general Cafarelli who struggled during the French intervention to bring his French ‘Enlightenment’ ideals to the Middle East.

As seen today, the movie is considered a historic reference to a distinction study on civilizations in conflict. Scroll down to see the cadres of the restored version of the movie.

WE SAID THIS: What do you think of the pictures?
