Gaza Christian Guides His Blind Muslim Friend to the Mosque Every Day for 4 Years
Many claim that the divide between Christians and Muslims is one of the most consistent realities throughout the history, but stories of the most simplistic forms of humanity have come out to combat these sentiments. In a place lacking humanity due to the illegal Israeli siege, Gaza is home to many tragic stories but still shines with a glimmer of hope, in particular the hope for religious tolerance comes with the story of friends of 15 years, Christian Kamal Tarzi and Muslim Hatem Khreis.
According to Al-Monitor, 45-year-old pharmacist, Hatem Khreis lost his sight while preparing a prescription five years ago, one of his greatest loses was being unable to perform prayers in the mosque. According to his friend 55-year-old Kamal Tarzi, Khreis would cry every time he heard the call to prayer, stricken by his friends grief, he decided to guide his friend to the mosque for daily prayers and has been doing so for four years.
Tarzi had also expressed his will to sacrifice for his friend, telling the outlet that if a transplant was possible he world give one of his eyes to Khreis in order for him to see his five children. Since the three Abrahamic religions existed, Palestine has been home to turmoil, tolerance, and the land of worship. Violence and politics have divided the residents of the holy land.
Khreis and Tarzi’s story of friendship has proven to a religious prejudice world that respect and compassion exist between Christianity and Islam, even in the most broken of places. Khreis and Tarzi’s story has not only warmed our hearts and revived our faith in humanity, but has given us an unprecedented level of #FriendshipGoals.
