First Ever Smoking Cessation Center for Women Launched in Alexandria
How many smokers have you come across that fear quitting the habit due to the agonizing process? Tobaco-related diseases include coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer. Egypt has been on a mission to help smokers quit recently.
Smoking cessation is the process of discontinuing addictive nicotine use. Undersecretary of the Health Ministry, Alaa Othman, has announced the launch of the first ever smoking cessation center dedicated to women. The center is located in Alexandria’s Regional Center for Women’s Health and Development at Raml station, under the management of the Directorate of Health Affairs in Alexandria.
The director of the anti-smoking department and school health officer in the Alexandria health affairs directorate, Hisham Aqil, explained that the center is the first to be dedicated to women following the noticeable spread of shisha smoking among girls in cafes. That’s in addition to the increasing use of electronic cigarettes and shisha among university students.
The decision to limit smoking inside health institutes comes in accordance with the World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) 2030 project and President Sisi’s “Our health in our lifestyle” campaign.
