Egypt’s State Council Claims Fajr Prayer Is Invalid for Muslims All over the World
The Egyptian Administrative Court is looking into a lawsuit by an Egyptian Imam who’s demanding the state to amend the time of Fajr (dawn) prayer, as it usually starts way before its time, which automatically invalidates any Muslim’s prayer.
According to Al-Ahram, the Imam, who is from Monufia governorate, is filing an urgent lawsuit that has reached the Administrative Court of Justice against the Ministers of Irrigation and Endowments and the Chairman of the Geological Survey and the Republic Comptroller.
The Imam claims that the calculation of Fajr prayer’s time is based on the research Institute of Astronomical Research, which concludes that the prayer is when the sun is under the horizon by 14.7 degrees. The lawsuit has mentioned that the Fajr prayer is currently being lifted by the minimum difference of 23 minutes, and the highest difference of 30 minutes throughout the year, which invalidates the prayer of Muslims.
The lawsuit was based on a ruling issued by the Egyptian House of Ifta on 22 November 1981, stating that the astronomical account of prayer times that is issued by the Geological Survey was presented to a specialized committee of men Astronomy and Sharia. It concluded that the method that is used to calculate the prayer times in Egypt is compatible in terms of legality and astronomy with the opinion of the ancient astronomers of Muslims.
