Egyptian Footballer Sam Morsy Suspended Immediately Over Post-Match Talk About Palestine
In another football match, another Egyptian footballer risked his career to voice concern for Palestine. This time, the Ipswich Town midfielder Sam Morsy, having scored an equalizer in his team’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City, took the chance to express solidarity with Gaza.
During an EFL Championship Game, the midfielder bravely spoke on Gaza after the match saying “We’ve got the privilege to be here. 30,000 and an amazing team, while the plight continues in Palestine…We are lucky; we get to play football for a living, and we’re doing well; we’re enjoying it, blessed, and privileged to be in this position” Morsy added.
The English Football Association decided to suspend the footballer for one game, after his talks about Palestine that have violated article E3.1. Consequently, disciplinary action was taken as a response to violating club rules. The club then announced that Morsy admitted to the penalty and regretted it.
