Darvish Fakhr’s Cosmic Caravan Showcases Timeless Artwork With A Mystical Twist

Iranian-American artist, Darvish Fakhr is currently showcasing ‘Cosmic Caravan’, which is an interactive exhibition, accompanied by a number of live performances as part of Dubai’s Alserkal Art Week until March 22. The exhibit includes classical paintings that have been “vandalized” with Sufi-inspired quotes.

The combination of classic, timeless artwork with modern and mystical aspects in Fakhr’s work results in a distinctive visual aesthetic that appeals to individuals who are drawn to provocative art forms. Sufism, which challenges people’s preconceived views of culture and tolerance, is Fakhr’s primary influence and inspiration. His performance art is notable for its surrealism, humor, and positivity.

Although not a practicing Sufi, Fakhr’s work honors the simplicity of Sufi spirituality to the extent that, according to AlSerkal, he refers to himself as a “Sufi School Dropout.”

Fakhr, however, enjoys fusing many cultural concepts and expressing them through movement, writing, or art. His artwork frequently addresses diversity as he works to meld different perspectives and dispel common cultural misconceptions. The Iranian-American has participated in worldwide exhibitions and performances, including The Armory Show in New York, and his work is part of the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection in London.
