Tarek Shawki, the Education Minister, announced on Monday that study will be suspended for a week at Choueifat due to fears over the spread of meningitis disease among students.

Shawki said that a press conference will be held on Saturday to announce more details, and noted that the ministry’s decision is just a precautionary measure.

The Health Ministry Spokesperson, Khalid Megahd, said that the student suspected to be carrying the disease is currently diagnosed with a viral brain infection and not meningitis. Which contradicts what has been said by the Education Minister that what was discovered in the school is indeed meningitis.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord caused by viral or bacterial infection, and marked by intense headache and fever, sensitivity to light, and muscular rigidity.

WE SAID THIS: Our hearts go out to the sick student!
