‘Bulletproof Dreams’: Over 260 Masterpieces Honor Gaza In Turkey’s Art Exhibition

What comes to your mind when you hear about art made by children? Maybe inexperience or an innocent worldview. Child art unlike any other is a mirror to the young person’s inner corridors, revealing psychological pain, simple dreams, or big ambitions. What about art that is made by Gazan children?

In an exhibition that launched yesterday December 29 in Turkey, there were more than 260 artworks that were created and put on display by Palestinian children; the young generation who witnessed the trauma of the genocide firsthand.

Organized by the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications and aiming to draw attention to the human tragedy in Gaza through the eyes of children, “Bulletproof Dreams: Gaza Child Artists Exhibition” opened in Taksim Square. The exhibition includes both physical installations of paintings by Gazan children and digital screenings. Turkey’s first lady Emine Erdogan gave a powerful speech about the world’s responsibility including Turkey’s to end the plight of children in Gaza, whose art displays in the rooms of the exhibition are a perfect example of their tragedy.

The child artworks were collected and preserved by journalist Abdullah Aytekin, some of which were drawn by Gazan children who lost their lives in the subsequent attacks. The collection was based on a drawing by six-year-old Mona who witnessed her mother being killed by an Israeli rocket and the subsequent massacre of 26 members of her family. In addition, there is a special section dedicated to the journalists and doctors who lost their lives in the recent Israeli attacks was presented to visitors. The exhibition is set to continue until January 29.
