If you live in Cairo, drive, and have smartphone, then there is a 85% chance you use Bey2ollak. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a crowd-sourced, cross-platform mobile app allowing users to share real-time information about Cairo and Alexandria traffic. Available for free on Blackberry, Nokia, Android, iPhone and Windows Phone, the service can also be accessed using the mobile site. The app has gained mass popularity since its launch in October of 2010. They also won awards and competitions such as NexGen 2011 & lately Google’s Ebada’ Startup Competition.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, if you have an iPhone and you’ve updated to iOS6, Bey2ollak is embracing you with a new version of the app! The app went online in the past 48 hours and there has been a lot of hype about it. So we wanted to know more about what makes this update special. We met up with Zeyad Salloum, the iOS Developer in the Bey2ollak to tell us more about it: –

Zeyad, what’s your role in the Bey2ollak team?

I started work with Bey2ollak in mid-July and my main job was specifically to work on the revamp of the iOS app.

What’s the biggest change in this update?

The biggest change is that this is a native iOS app now, the first version was only a wrapper of the HTML website.

So how does that make it better?

First off, SPEED! This update is extremely faster than the old one; it is also optimized for the iPhone 5 and works on either iOS5 or iOS6.

What new features are involved?

There is an all new design for the app, the favorites tab evolved into a list of routes that you can customize yourself; you can have a custom route. or a route that is automatically generated by the server based on the areas you chose. The app has also been customized to be universal working on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch (although a more iPad friendly version will be released soon to utilize the big screen).

WE SAID THIS: Well you heard it here from the man behind the new update. Go get that new version!
