Summertime is like no other in Cairo. It gets really hot, not to mention sticky as well. One of the things that makes the summer season bearable in the capital is its collection of superb ice cream parlors.

Whether it’s inspired by American ice cream, Italian gelato, or Egypt’s very own unique take on it, ice cream is at the cornerstone of Cairo’s summer vibes.

Mandarine Koueider

First established in 1928, the Koueider name has a rich history in both Cairo and Damascus. The family-owned business is renowned for its oriental sweets, pastries, desserts, cuisine, and most-importantly, ice cream. They have a myriad of flavors, each better than the one before it, and surprisingly, all at a low price.

Stavolta

With flavors such as hazelnut, lemon, chocolate praline, hibiscus, black forest, and the very superb salted caramel, Stavolta is one of the leading gelato parlors in all of the capital. They only have two branches in all of Cairo, one in Maadi and the other in Sheikh Zayed.

Gelato Mio

One of the lesser known ice cream spots that deserve more recognition is Gelato Mio. They have plenty of flavors including chocolate, caramel, and marron glacé. It praises itself on using only fresh ingredients and never resorting to artificial flavoring.

Baskin Robbins

A childhood favorite and a staple of the ice cream scene in Egypt, Baskin Robbins has been here for more than 50 years now. It is one of the largest ice cream brands in the whole world, renowned for their out-worldly flavors, such as the praline and cream or the strawberry cheesecake.

Sultana Ice Cream

With several branches all over Cairo, Sultana is one of the most loved parlors here in the capital. They serve local flavors such as mango, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. They have had their own take on more complex ones, including mastic, hazelnut, and yogurt and berries.

Al-Madina Al-Monawra

With a heavenly taste and wallet-friendly prices, Al-Madina Al-Monawra has become a household name in the different districts of Cairo. In fact, it is one of the busiest dairy shops in all of the capital.
