After 28 trophies, and countless tackles, Saad Samir has officially hung up his boots.
He’ll always be remembered as one of Al Ahly’s toughest defenders. But beyond the headers, clean sheets, and silverware, there was another side to Saad that fans couldn’t get enough of: the unintentionally hilarious, effortlessly funny teammate who somehow turned the simplest moments into classics.
As a goodbye, here are a few of the moments that reminded us there was never a dull day with Saad Samir around.
Throwing A Player Off The Pitch
During an Al Ahly match against El Gouna, an opposition player went down with what looked like a muscle cramp.
Saad did what any helpful person would do… at first. He ran over, and tried to help with the muscle cramp. Then, clearly deciding the stoppage had gone on long enough, he carried him off the pitch and practically tossed him outside the touchline so play could continue.
The referee wasn’t exactly impressed and immediately showed Saad a yellow card.
Half good deed, half “we’ve got a game to finish.”
Roasting His Teammates
During an Egypt national team camp, Saad couldn’t resist teasing Mohamed Salah and his teammates.
Joking with him in front of the squad, he basically told Salah that he’d gotten used to playing with his polished teammates in Italy and now had to come back and deal with this bunch instead.
The room burst into laughter, Salah included. It was classic dressing-room banter, and exactly the kind of joke only a close teammate could get away with.
The “Yom Wara Yom” Recreation With Afroto
Some footballers celebrate goals. Saad Samir and Mostafa Afroto recreated iconic movie scenes.
One of the funniest videos making the rounds among fans showed the duo acting out the famous “Yom Wara Yom” scene from Fool El Seen El Azeem, complete with exaggerated expressions and perfect comedic timing.
Turns out Saad’s defending wasn’t his only performance skill.
“Why Are You Laughing?”
In one interview, Saad had no idea the cameras were already recording.
Thinking they hadn’t started yet, he jokingly told the interviewer and cameraman, “Come on!”
Then, almost instantly switching into serious mode, he looked at the cameraman and asked, completely puzzled, “Why are you laughing?”
The accidental transition made the whole clip comedy gold.
Convincing Akram Tawfik He Spoke Hindi
Few things were funnier than Saad deciding to convince Akram Tawfik that he could actually speak Hindi.
He confidently made up words while Akram listened, trying to figure out whether this was a hidden talent nobody knew about.
The prank went on far longer than it probably should have—and that’s exactly what made it so funny.
Football will remember Saad Samir for the trophies, the leadership, and the years he gave to Al Ahly and Egypt.
But fans will also remember the yellow card that somehow came from helping someone, the dressing-room jokes, the movie reenactments, and the endless pranks that proved every squad needs a Saad Samir.
