Art of Nushu: The Egyptian Platform Working to Create Lasting Social Change for Women
On the International Day of Charity, we decided to shed light on one of the promising young ladies in the Egyptian community, who is using her platform to promote social change and charity, to help her fellow humans.
Hanaa El Sammak is the Egyptian artist behind Art of Nushu. Growing up, she always saw women as role models who can do anything they put their minds to. And since her childhood, she always had a passion to give back to the community through charity. Upon starting Art of Nushu, she wanted to mix her love and support for women, with her appreciation for the value of charity, in turn, donating all the money from her sold paintings to several charitable organizations.
In collaboration with 9 rising artists and Neya Platform, she launched Art for Social Impact, a project that aims to foster a society that raises awareness on the importance of lasting social change and a better environment for everyone.
Providing accessible education to orphans, supporting dog shelters, helping women start their own businesses, and providing school supplies for underprivileged children, were just some of the causes that El Sammak thought are essential and should be addressed.
“The idea is more than just charity. I want to create a ripple effect, so more people know about these societal issues, and through our work, help in solving them,” said El Sammak.
“The best way you can give back to the community is by highlighting the challenges. It’s always more powerful and efficient for people to work together on a cause, than one person to work alone. So the more we raise awareness, the more we can actually create change,” concluded El Sammak.
