Autism is on the rise amongst children all around the world and parents are scared. They are scared because they are constantly trying to understand and find the help the children need. Then, there is the whole process of finding a school that will accept the child, and the fact that they have to deal with other students’ bullying. Parents are always worried how their children will manage to grow into independent adults. Yet, the worst part is not understanding what your child, sibling, or friend is truly going through; because in some cases, people who are on the autism spectrum are non-verbal.
The Arab League Modern United Nations (ALMUN), a non-profit organization, creates annual awareness campaigns to shed light on different misconceptions in our society. This year, ALMUN chose to speak about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and its diversity. ASD ranges from a mild impairment to a severe disability and people seem to be clueless about it.
The short movie takes us inside the world of an autistic young man, played by Actor Ahmed Dash. The actor goes to a cafe with a girl, only to find himself distracted by simple noises, colors, and patterns surrounding him. The short movie perfectly describes how things that go unnoticed by anyone can be extremely pressuring for someone with ASD.
Ahmed Dash is a school student and an actor with a huge audience. School years can be exceptionally challenging for ASD students as they have to deal with demanding atmosphere while resisting surroundings that might trigger them. Casting a popular school student to ask bullies to be kind to autistic people is a brilliant choice.
