A Swim into History: Mariam Saleh Bin Laden Breaks Barriers with Her Journey from Khobar to Bahrain

Mariam Saleh Bin Laden has made history as the first Arab woman to swim from Khobar, Saudi Arabia, to Bahrain. Hailed as one of the most prominent women advocates for Syrian refugees, breaking records as an athlete, and maneuvering one of the most challenging occupations as a doctor, Mariam is truly a role model.

Mariam Saleh Bin Laden: Trailblazing Saudi Swimmer

The Saudi swimmer completed the Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge of swimming 31.5 kilometers across the Arabian Gulf to reach Bahrain. Mariam Bin Laden swam for 11 hours, 25 minutes, and 47 seconds, showcasing her resilience and prowess.

Her achievement was celebrated by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who praised her for inspiring young Saudi women to pursue their dreams.

Mariam’s Record-Breaking Feats

Mariam Bin Laden’s achievement in 2024 is not a first. Through the years, she has set herself on the international radar. She was the first Arab woman to swim across the Red Sea to Egypt in 2022, a feat that highlighted her endurance and ability to conquer challenging waters.

She also swam 24 kilometers across Dubai Creek in 2017, setting a benchmark for endurance swimming in the region. In 2016, Mariam became the first Gulf woman to cross the English Channel, covering 21 miles and earning global recognition for her groundbreaking accomplishment.

Mariam Bin Laden is walking forward with sure footsteps, and likewise, Saudi women are changing the game.
