Dubai Fashion Week is wrapping up today, and Spring/Summer 2027 gave us plenty to talk about. From couture inspired by Persian poetry and butterflies to crystal-covered gowns that practically demand their own spotlight, this season’s runways brought drama, craftsmanship, and some seriously good fashion moments. Here are six collections that caught our eye, and trust us, each had its own story to tell.

1. Sara Pedram

Some collections are about clothes; others have a whole story woven into every stitch. For her latest collection, “Simurgh,” Iranian-born, Dubai-based designer Sara Pedram drew inspiration from The Conference of the Birds, the 12th-century Persian poem by Attar of Nishapur. Think sheer silhouettes with wing-like shoulders and a Prussian-blue velvet gown featuring a Swarovski-crystal Tree of Life trailing across its train.

But the collection’s emotional roots run deeper than its poetic inspiration. After experiencing the loss of her baby and her father within a devastatingly short period, Sara channelled her grief into her work. As her husband movingly described it, the collection is about transformation and rebirth: turning pain into beauty. Suddenly, every feather-like detail feels that much more meaningful.

2. KEL’

KEL’ took the idea of transformation quite literally with “Genesis,” a Spring/Summer 2027 couture collection inspired by the butterfly’s journey from cocoon to flight. Designed by Olena Kondratova, the collection played with contrasting textures, sculptural shapes and beautifully constructed silhouettes.

The standout? A dress covered in more than 100 three-dimensional butterflies, each embroidered by hand. Yes, every single one. It’s the kind of detail that makes you appreciate just how much work goes into couture, proving that sometimes the tiniest creatures can make the biggest fashion statement.

3. FADTalents

Consider this your reminder to keep an eye on fashion’s rising names. FADTalents, the emerging-designers platform by FAD International Academy, brought fresh ideas to the runway through experimental silhouettes, textured fabrics, sheer details and bold colour combinations. From architectural tailoring to unexpected proportions, the showcase leaned into creative freedom rather than playing it safe. The verdict? These are the names worth watching before everyone else catches on.

4. Monica Schuster

Colombian designer Monica Schuster brought celestial drama to Dubai Fashion Week with her “Eclipse” collection. Inspired by the transition from darkness to light, the collection explored transformation through sculptural volumes, intricate crystal embroidery and striking eveningwear.

Blending European tailoring techniques with Latin American artistry, Schuster created looks that balanced strength with modern femininity. Each piece felt designed to make an entrance, whether through its dramatic construction or its sparkling details. Basically, if your idea of subtle includes a constellation of crystals, this one’s for you.

5. Yousef Al-Jasmi

If anyone knows how to dress for the spotlight, it’s Kuwait’s Yousef Al-Jasmi. Known for creating looks for stars including Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, the designer opened Dubai Fashion Week with a runway debut that understood the assignment.

Nude, lilac and black set the tone for a lineup of crystal-encrusted gowns, sculpted bodices and cascading strands of crystals that caught the light with every step. The silhouettes were sleek, the sparkle was unapologetic, and the overall mood was pure red-carpet fantasy. Subtlety? Not on this runway, and honestly, we weren’t asking for it.

6. KUNI

Making its Dubai Fashion Week debut, Abu Dhabi-based couture house KUNI arrived with a philosophy that feels refreshingly simple: be whoever you want to be. Founded by architect-turned-designer Sara Mousa, the brand brings an architectural eye for proportion and structure into couture, creating pieces that complement the woman wearing them rather than compete for attention.

Persian motifs, hand embroidery and sculptural silhouettes came together in designs centred on individuality and self-expression. Even the name, meaning “be” in Arabic, captures the idea behind the collection. It’s a promising first runway chapter for a label that wants women to feel like themselves, only dressed exceptionally well.

The Final Look

From Sara Pedram’s deeply personal exploration of grief and renewal to KUNI’s debut and Yousef Al-Jasmi’s unapologetic glamour, Dubai Fashion Week SS27 offered more than beautiful clothes. These collections showed how fashion can tell stories, honour heritage and give emerging voices room to experiment. If this is what the Spring/Summer 2027 season has in store, we’re already looking forward to what comes next.

Malak cannot seem to get enough of Literature - so much so that she has pursued it in both her BA and MA, and the love affair is still going strong. Aside from her love for words, humans generally fascinate her. She spends a lot of her time analyzing the minds of people around her and watching criminal minds. She is still fairly new in adulthood, and until now, nothing has made sense in life but chocolate.
