Heba Khamis, an Egyptian Storyteller and Photographer, is the first Egyptian to win the World Press Photo Award for the year 2018. The picture is called Banned Beauty and it sure is a one of a kind.
Banned Beauty rationale is to spot the light on breast ironing traditional practice in Cameron that happens to girls aging from 8 to 12 years old, the belief behind this practice is that, it will delay maturity and avoid rapes and sexual advances for girls in Cameron. Having graduated with a bachelor degree in painting, Khamis shifted her career to work as a photojournalist in an Egyptian newspaper, Tahrir, as well as a freelancer with various international agencies.
The 29 years old Egyptian, Heba Khamis, photography style has totally developed when she volunteered in Uganda, as she tried to mix her own artistic skills with her photojournalist experience in addressing neglected social and humanitarian issues in Africa.
Her unique documentation talent has guaranteed her to become the first Egyptian woman to win the World press photo award this year.
