To all the script writers out there, there is definitely some meat on the story of how three British tourists woke up in Syria after a big night out…

Lewis Ellis, 25, Alex McCormick, 19, and James Wallman, 23, reportedly thought a dolphin-watching boat tour would be the perfect cure to their hangover after a wild night in Cyprus on Tuesday. Yet the boat turned out to be a ferry from Ayia Napa to the Syrian port of Tartus.

Ellis, who stands out as the leader of the excursion, explained on social media that with the last club closing at 7:30AM, they hopped on the first morning boat and posted the picture above on Snapchat when they found themselves in Syria.

We imagine a surreal movie scene when the three mates woke up from their dreams stunned by the heating sun, with a few extra tattoos, some teeth missing and maybe a new pet half way through the 100-mile trip across the Mediterranean to realize they were on their way to war-torn Syria.

We also love to imagine the trio welcomed by the military in Tartus, less than 100 kilometers from Homs, and eating an Iftar financed by Russians on the port waiting for a ride back.

It was later discovered that Mr. Ellis has a Youtube channel called LostBoyLewis known for pranks and that this might very well just have been one of them…but we still want to see that movie!

WE SAID THIS: And in all seriousness, comedies have always been a great way to raise serious issues to the masses and all this is a good reminder of how many people in actual serious trouble would dream of getting on one of those boats for a Tartus-Napa journey…
