Witnessing Genocide In Gaza: Israeli Teen Refuses To Join The IDF Gets Jailed For 30 Days
An 18-year-old Israeli boy named Tal Mitnick has publicly protested against Israeli attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip, announcing his refusal to join the IDF. The Israeli police have responded by detaining him for 30 days.
Mitnick’s protest is considered the first conscientious objector imprisoned in the current war. The assumption is that he would serve more time in detention if he continues holding his stance.
“I am standing today at Tel Hashomer base and refusing to enlist in the IDF…I believe that a massacre does not solve a massacre…the criminal attack on Gaza won’t solve the atrocious slaughter that Hamas executed…violence won’t solve violence,” said Mitnick.
Mitnick wrote a powerful statement on December 26 stating that the solution will not come through violence, nor shall he contribute to this violence. Nevertheless, he held the position that the October 7 attack by Hamas was indeed a terrorist one that saw unprecedented violations, yet the 18-year-old teen sees that the two parties Israelis and Palestinians have an undeniable historical tie to the land that needs to be confronted.
