Why Traveling as a Student Is One of the Best Choices You’ll Ever Make

By Susan Wallace

Did you include at least one trip to a new destination in your 2020 resolution? If you forgot to do that, think about revisiting your list.

Yes; you’re just a student. Your budget is limited and you think that you don’t have any time for traveling. Everyone is telling you the same thing: your studies are the main focus right now. You intend to work over the summer, so you’ll save the needed finances to support yourself over the next year of studies.

But you know what? Travel is the best education!

Traveling is a skill that everyone needs to develop. It leads you to more knowledge, understanding of different cultures, and personal growth. No one is teaching traveling at school, so you have a responsibility to develop this skill by yourself.

Why All Students Should Travel

  • Traveling is great for your health

Have you ever been sick before a trip, but magically healed on the day you started traveling? Many travelers have faced such a situation. The adrenalin, excitement, and enthusiasm lift them up.

Research shows that traveling reduces the risk of death from cardiovascular disease in men by 32%. Women who travel are less likely to suffer from depression, stress, and chronic tiredness.

You accumulate a lot of stress throughout a single year of study. You need at least one short vacation to balance things out.

  • Traveling is the best way to learn history

Textbooks are not what makes a person educated. Sure; you’ll learn a lot if you read the textbooks related to your studies. However, you need some experience to complement that knowledge.

When you travel, you learn through experience. When people come to Egypt and see the pyramids, they finally realize how impressive they truly are. They couldn’t comprehend everything from history books.

Our planet is wonderful. You’ll learn about it more if you start visiting amazing places.

  • Traveling makes you a better writer

If you’re like most students, writing assignments challenge you beyond your limits. You feel like you’re not good enough at research and writing custom papers. Traveling can change that. When you have exceptional experiences, you’ll be inspired to write about them.

You can start by writing captions for your Instagram posts. When you visit new places, it will be easy to share what you learned about them. Take the opportunity to introduce your humor and personality into the content.

Write a travel journal, too! No one has to see it. You’ll do it for yourself. It will help you remember every detail of your trip. However, journaling also inspires you to write on a daily basis. With each new entry, you’ll be getting better at writing.

  • Traveling makes you more creative

Studies show a clear connection between creativity and traveling. Traveling contributes to multicultural adaptation, immersion, and engagement. When you’re abroad, you engage with the local community and environment.

Can you imagine going to Cuba and spending a month with the local community? You’ll understand how they eat, what they do for fun, and how they live their lives. Your mind will start exploring different ideas, and it will inevitably become more creative.

A brief spring break full of fun and drinking won’t have the same effect. You have to push yourself further. Travel to exotic destinations, and you’ll unleash the full potential of your mind.

  • Traveling teaches you how to manage finances

There are people who don’t go on a trip without a budget of a few thousands of dollars. They will stay at their lovely hotel, eat great food, and visit all the museums. They will have a great time. However, there are also people who can’t afford luxurious trips. They can still see and experience a lot. They will throw basic stuff in their backpack, take a limited amount of money with them, and head off to see the world. They have an amazing experience, too!

As a student, you don’t have a lot to spend. However, a small budget can get you places, too. You’ll learn to stretch it out.

You’ll have to save money for your trips, and then you’ll manage those finances to cover your needs. That’s a skill that you’ll benefit from!

Most of All, Traveling Is Fun!

You’ve surely seen photos of people who often travel. Their Instagram feeds are full of smiley faces, gorgeous landscapes, and testimonies of fun times spent with people they just met. Traveling is always fun!

Dreaming about beautiful destinations and browsing for photos on the web is not enough.

Traveling is something that everyone should do. You may not have too much money while you’re studying. But if you work part-time and you start saving, you’ll be able to afford a fun trip. Once you book your first trip to a cool destination, nothing will be the same. You’ll be hooked for life!
