UAE’s Jumeirah Ventures into Africa with Island and Safari Escapes
Jumeirah, the luxury hotel brand under Dubai Holding, is making waves with its debut in Africa. Partnering with South Africa’s Thanda Group, the company has unveiled two groundbreaking destinations: the Jumeirah Thanda Island, a secluded villa retreat in Tanzania, and the Jumeirah Thanda Safari, a private reserve in South Africa.
The Jumeirah Thanda Island sits on a pristine five-hectare island within a protected marine reserve in the Indian Ocean. Accessible via helicopter from Dar es Salaam or by speedboat from Mafia Island, the retreat promises unparalleled exclusivity.
This uninhabited island offers a serene escape with breathtaking views, lush tropical surroundings, and a focus on marine conservation.
Safari Adventures Redefined: Jumeirah Thanda Safari
For those drawn to Africa’s wild landscapes, the Jumeirah Thanda Safari delivers a luxury experience like no other. Nestled in a private game reserve in South Africa, this property includes the Jumeirah Residences and The Royal Thanda Club.
Future plans feature a luxury-tented camp and a refurbished lodge, offering travelers a harmonious blend of modern opulence and authentic safari adventures.
According to Jumeirah’s interim CEO, Thomas Meier, the move into Africa reflects the brand’s vision to “grow sustainably into new destinations and diversify our portfolio with a focus on properties that offer a distinct proposition.”
Why Africa Matters for Jumeirah
This expansion marks a strategic step for Jumeirah, which already operates 26 properties across the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. By entering Africa, the brand taps into a region rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity, aligning with global travel trends that prioritize exclusive and sustainable experiences.
The addition of these two properties reinforces Jumeirah’s commitment to creating unique travel experiences. With Jumeirah Thanda Island’s focus on marine conservation and the safari reserve’s promise of intimate wildlife encounters, the brand is poised to attract high-end travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
