UAE Achieves Major Step in Self-Sufficiency After New Gas Field Discovery
On Monday, the UAE announced the discovery of 80 trillion cubic feet of natural gas on the border between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The announcement was made during the signing of strategic cooperation between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) to jointly explore and develop the gas reservoir, under the name ‘Jebel Ali Project’.
As the country seeks to diversify its energy sources, this gas field will contribute to enhancing its energy security, and power Dubai’s economic and industrial needs.
According to the Dubai Media Office, the discovery of the Jebel Ali gas field will contribute to achieving gas self-sufficiency for the country and support its 50-year strategic development plan.
Analysts have said that this could be the world’s largest natural gas find since 2005.
ADNOC drilled over 10 wells to make this discovery, marking the first time the company explores for hydrocarbon resources in Dubai.
