Mehwar TV channel announced on Wednesday that it has opened an investigation with the TV host, Mona Iraqi, for using “inappropriate” language during covering a rape case on her show “Entbah” according to Egypt Independent.
The channel’s management said in a statement that the language used by Iraqi contradicts the channel’s regulations; which has always been considered as “the channel of the Egyptian family” since it was launched 15 years ago. The management also stressed that any host who doesn’t abide by the moral and professional rules of the channel won’t have a place on the screen.
“The Mehwar channel apologizes to the audience for the inappropriate words used by host Mona Iraqi, and stresses that the main objective is to publish objective information to every Egyptian family [adhering to] clear ethical and professional standards that maintain the cohesion of society,” the statement added.
Iraqi was previously sentenced to six months in prison and LE 10,000 bail in 2015 over charges of “defamation” and broadcasting false news for filming a bathhouse raid in December 2014, the verdict was canceled in January 2016.
