Tawsila: Egypt’s First-Ever Taxi Service for Those Suffering from Disabilities
This year, Egypt has witnessed inclusion like never before. Individuals with disabilities have proved this year that the sky is their limit.
From a TV host with Down syndrome, sign language added to Ramadan series, a visually-impared anchor, to the first ranked autistic student in Thanaweya Amma and so much more.
It seems that Egypt is currently on a mission to make commuting easier for individuals on wheelchairs. Better late than never!
Inspiring Egyptian man, Khaled Kahiry, founded the first-ever app to commute disabled people in Egypt. It all started when Khairy noticed the difficulties his mother faced in transportation due to her age.
Tawsila offers two customized cars with two trained operators and plans on expanding the business across the country. During an interview with WAYA Media, Khairy explained that Tawsila is the cheapest method of transportation compared to the market.
In 2018, Careem launched Assist that helped commute individuals on wheelchairs. The service was available in Alexandria. London Cab Egypt is also known to offer a wheelchair access ramp for commuters.
