Support World Down Syndrome Day with Rotaract Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan
Down Syndrome is considered to be one of the most common genetic chromosomal disorders. It leads to learning, mental and physical disabilities in children due the presence of an extra chromosome 21.
While Down Syndrome can not be treated, raising awareness is important to secure a healthy development for people who suffer from this disease.
World Down Syndrome Day aims to raise awareness for the benefit of those suffering from Down Syndrome, reminding us that they are humans first who may require additional support, but should be regarded as equals without discrimination based on their disabilities.
For the past six years, Rotaract Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan has been reaching out to and integrating different sectors of Egyptian society in its events, aiming to raise awareness and public acceptance of Down Syndrome in Egypt.
This year, Rotaract Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan are organizing a fun day for children with Down Syndrome on Mar. 27 in Alexandria for over 400 children as well as their siblings, friends and families at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology’s Abu Kir Campus.
In a day filled with activities for the kids to have fun as well as to raise public awareness about how to aid in their development, Rotaract has divided its event into two segments – one for the parents and another for the kids.
With marriages between relatives being popular in Egypt and the Arab world, we direly need to understand the genetic diseases that our kids could be at risk of getting – Down Syndrome being one of them.
If you’re looking to understand more or just help Rotaract in their excellent cause, you can look them up on their Facebook page for more details on how to volunteer or participate in the event.
