Stay Fit Anywhere and Everywhere
With the weather getting warmer by the day, we’re witnessing more and more outdoor fitness activities. Last weekends “El Fit ” festival showed the growing enthusiasm of the fitness industry in Egypt. Along with growing activations and campaigns like, Cairo runners, Cairo cycles, Bootcamp Egy, CrossFit stars and many other outdoor based exercises which are greater and much more fun than the walled gyms. My question is, are you ready for an outdoor activity ?.
Here’s how to get prepared!
The most important gear you need is proper shoes. Whether you’re doing some jogging, light Cardio, cycling or even HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training ), a proper pair of running shoes is of the utmost importance to avoid injuries to your feet , ankles, knees, hips and yes your spine. You need well cushioned running shoes made of durable material and firm support to the arch of your foot. Check the shoe for deformation when buying by running in place or jumping to reach for a decision. I recommend a one size bigger than your regular shoe size as you work out your feet swell a bit but they still need to fit properly.
Clothing doesn’t have to be of the fancy expensive type, but I totally recommend the synthetics rather than the cotton ones to wick moisture away from your skin and help in cooling . Go for loose fitting light colored clothes that breathe easily. Try to avoid 100% cotton socks. Go for blends to avoid having blisters because of the moisture. For the ladies, the sports bra is very important. You need a good supportive one that fits properly and doesn’t stretch out too much. Gentlemen, avoid boxers at any cost as they tend to get twisted and bunched up. Go for briefs or compression shorts instead.
Going for a run on the streets doesn’t mean you won’t need accessories. Hats and sunglasses are very important during long runs or workouts on sunny days to protect your eyes and face from the UV rays. Check your sunglasses to be Anti UV A and B which is the most harmful. They also help limiting headaches from continuous squinting from bright sunlight exposure.
Sunscreen is very important for the light colored people who get easily sunburnt. Choose one that is at least SPF 15, apply copiously 20 minutes before a run to allow it to be fully absorbed.
Last but not least .. Water! .. Hydration during a run or a workout is very important. It helps you get rid of the toxic metabolites that accumulate in your body, literally washing them away so less cramps and muscle fatigue. Also hydration is very important to avoid sun strokes.
So there you go, are you ready for your first outdoor workout experience ?
Happy running everybody !!
