A Star Among Us: Yasmine El-Mehairy

Yasmine El-Mehairy Yasmine El-Mehairy is a very inspiring young woman who always amazes us with her hard work and persistence. She’s the co-founder of Supermama.me, our favorite parenting website in the region. Read her interview and get inspired about some of her views on life and work.

Introduce yourself.

My name is Yasmine El-Mehairy, I co-founded  SuperMama.me, the parenting portal of the Arab world, which launched in October 2011. I was born, raised and currently live in Cairo, Egypt. I studied Computer Science in Ain Shams University then did an MSc in Interactive Multimedia in the University of Westminster in London. I am also a blogger, a paper crafter, an amateur travel photographer and occasionally a cook.

What inspired you to be the person you are today?

That’s a very difficult question. I just am. Maybe fate was the reason? I don’t know.

Define success.

The formula to success is doing what you love, standing up for your vision and fighting the world if you need to. Search for the positive energy and inspiration in everything and everyone that surrounds you.

Share with us the best piece of advice ever given to you.

Steve Jobs said: “Stay hungry, stay foolish.” This touches me deeply and pretty much guides me through.

What motivates you?

I fill up on energy when I’m around people, especially creative people with new ideas.

Tell us a common misconception that people have about what you do.

When I tell people I run a parenting website, they always think “but you’re not even married and have no children.” The thing is, SuperMama is not my personal blog, we depend on experts not saying our personal views. It sometimes gets on my nerves.

Mistakes are…

Mistakes are how we grow. How would we learn if we never make any mistakes.

Three random things about yourself…

I will never be caught dead wearing orange or yellow. I’m a control freak. I want to live next door to a boulangerie to have fresh bread and bakeries each and every day.

You’ll know you’ve made it when…

Possibly not ever. I’m one of those people who are never satisfied and always seek more challenges.
