With a blend of electronic instrumentals and classical, often poetic Arabic vocals and lyrics, the Syrian-German duo Shkoon, Ameen from Syria and Thorben from Hamburg, has become one of the region’s most notable electronic acts, known for their immersive audio-visual live sets and dynamic performances.
Ahead of their Traces Tour announcement, they released the first single from their forthcoming debut album, titled ‘Tired Way’, setting the tone for the rest of the album, which is scheduled for release next March. ‘Tired Way’ uses restraint as a narrative tool with themes revolving around walking a path that feels familiar yet no longer comforting, dwelling on the uncertainty of where to go next. The track is based on a poem by Syrian writer Hussein Hamza, reflecting the emotional fatigue of not knowing where to turn, the heaviness of constant forward motion, and the memory of childhood lightness and how easily it slips away.
Shkoon is set to take the full band on improvisational live performances throughout the Traces tour, which kicked off on November 27th in Hamburg, where the band is based. They will make a stop in Egypt’s Hurghada on January 2nd. The announced dates so far are:
