Q&A: Fabolous in Dubai
Last Friday, Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Fabolous performed at Supperclub Dubai and we got the chance to sit down for a quick chat.
When I heard he was coming to perform, I immediately rapped “f-a-b-o-l-o-u-s”. He is absolutely the sole reason why a number of Americans can’t spell fabulous correctly. Known for his hip-hop collaborations with Ashanti, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and more, it’s close to impossible to not recognize a Fabolous song.
Around midnight, he rolled up in a white Phantom Rolls Royce dressed in white from head to toe. Cigar in hand, we sat on the terrace outside with about 20 people and the most intimidating bodyguards I’ve ever seen in my life hovered around us. He had his head wrapped with a traditional, white Emirati headdress before he got on stage. Both Rihanna and Snoop Dogg (Lion?) did the same at their performances as a sign of respect.
We only had a few minutes before he had to go, but thankfully got the chance to talk about his trips to the Middle East, specifically Egypt:
Is this your first time to the Middle East?
No, I’ve been to Dubai a couple of times. I have a great time every time I come.
Have you ever had the chance to visit Egypt?
Yeah I’ve been to Egypt. I visited Cairo. I was in Greece and it was a short flight over, so we stopped over in Egypt to site see. I saw the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the museum, it was crazy.
Did you get a chance to visit the beaches?
No, we didn’t get the chance to go.
Naturally, I went off about the beauty of our beaches so he said that now that he knows, he will definitely check out the Egyptian beaches next time he visits.
He had to get ready to perform so I thanked him and with a big smile, he thanked me right back and offered his hand out for a fabulous handshake.
After his performance, I caught a glance of Fabolous on the other side of the jam-packed club standing on the couch dancing the night away. He’ll definitely be back again soon.
