President El-Sisi Issues Pardon for 4,466 Prisoners In Celebration of January 25

In celebration of January 25, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree pardoning 4,466 convicts. The decision reflects a spirit of compassion and unity, aligning with the President’s constitutional powers.

Egypt’s Constant Commitment to Human Rights 

The decision underscores Egypt’s ongoing commitment to human rights. Counselor Mahmoud Fawzy, Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs, highlighted the state’s efforts to strengthen its human rights efforts, including the reactivation and expansion of the Presidential Pardon Committee in 2022. This reflects a political will to reassess cases that meet pardon criteria.

Who Is Eligible for the Pardon?

Eligibility for pardons in Egypt is determined based on specific conditions. It applies to prisoners who have served at least half of their sentence for criminal cases that do not involve violations of honor, premeditated murder, drug-related crimes, or acts that threaten national security. 

Other conditions include good behavior during imprisonment and the absence of pending charges. This ensures that the process is fair and focuses on rehabilitating those who can reintegrate into society.

National Council for Human Rights Welcomes the Initiative

Dr. Moushira Khattab, Head of the National Council for Human Rights, praised the decree as a meaningful gesture on this occasion, noting the joy it brings to 4,466 families. She emphasized the significance of this act as a celebration of this remarkable day in Egyptian history.
