Member of Parliament Amal Abdel-Hamid has proposed shifting Egypt’s official working hours to run from 5 a.m. until 12 p.m. The proposal, to be submitted at the start of the sixth legislative session in October, aims to replace the current schedule of 8 a.m. to 2–4 p.m.
Abdel-Hamid argued that shifting hours could boost productivity and efficiency, particularly in labor-intensive sectors. She pointed to international claims highlighting potential benefits of earlier starts, such as higher energy, increased output, and more time for family life after work.
