My Ramadan: Eat, Pray & Love
Ramadan has always been my favorite holiday. It’s a whole month full of spirituality, family and food. It is the time of year when suddenly everything seems better, time full of hope, the time that I remember how much blessed I am.
It is no secret that I do love food, but throughout the year I count every single calorie and obsess about the amount of sugar even in my juice; however, this month I get to eat whatever I want, all those kinds of oriental desserts (I don’t get -konafa b manga- though) but this isn’t the point, the point is that I don’t feel guilty and it feels really good.
That doesn’t mean I will follow some sort of a healthy lifestyle; I have a treat, but I don’t over eat just for the sake of eating or getting that tummy full. It’s all about actually enjoying what I’m eating. I still hit the gym six days a week, so I am hoping I won’t gain more than six pounds by the end of this month!
After all, Ramadan is a religious holiday which makes it full of spirituality, inner happiness and peace. The spirit is overwhelming; I love how everyone starts rushing into Masjids for prayers, people everywhere are reading Qur’an. People start doing things that we don’t usually see throughout the year.
It is the time of the year when we remember our religion and our beliefs, this month gives me hope, and regardless how my life is going, I just realize that there is some sort of a plan set, a bigger one for me. It’s really amazing how everything suddenly seems good in this month.
Also, one more thing about Ramadan is getting to spend time with your family and friends. My family loves keeping this tradition of big family gatherings where we get to catch up and to see people that we haven’t seen for almost a year, we sit there chatting and having a great time! The feeling I get when
I know that I have such a beautiful family who will always love me and have my back is really indescribable! I can’t find a word better than “beautiful” for it. And, of course my awesome friends are part of this; we get to hang out more and I truly love them. All that love makes me realize how blessed I am and how grateful I am.
Ramadan will always be my favorite month of the year; it is full of spirituality, love and food! I can’t ask for more. Also, I love how wherever I go I see special decorations, and I still end up getting a “fanoos” because some stuff just never get old.
