This Muslim Designer Made History at New York Fashion Week
We can’t deny the fact that the fashion industry has significantly evolved. A big proof to that is what happened at NYFW. Yes, it just showcased a collection that has every look under the sun worn by hijabis on its runway. The line was designed by none other than Indonesian designer, Anniesa Hasibuan.
Hasibuan’s designs are inspired a lot by the Indonesian culture, as well as traditional Muslim looks. In her collection, hijabs are worn with trousers, suits, tunics and colorful silk gowns.
She also included crystal-crusted eyewear, chunky necklaces, pajama pants and chic-layering. In a way, she revolutionized the hijabi style.
Muted pastels were the base for the collection. Pink hues also took to the runway and the flowing garments stood out beautifully on the ramp. Stunning silk kaftans and robes were impeccably paired with big belts and chunky neck pieces.
Hasibuan took the hijab and made it a high-fashion runway centerpiece. The brand has successfully shown collections at several fashion events including Istanbul and London Fashion week.
WE SAID THIS: Hasibuan follows the footsteps of designer Mimpikita, who brought the hijab to London Fashion Week for the first time in February 2016.
