In a world where music is often treated as a commodity, priced beyond reach and framed as a privilege, it’s rare to see a DIY effort that truly makes it accessible to everyone. Having carved out his own space in Cairo’s underground trap-shaabi scene, rapper Mosalem brings his music directly to the people with his “One Man, One Pound” initiative for his debut live show at Room Art Space, New Cairo, on December 5th.
Mosalem has already had a prolific year, releasing 12 projects so far, including singles and his deeply personal EP Qesset Shams El 3ebad. His work blends old-school hip-hop with elements of other genres, fusing rap and rock in some tracks, and occasionally incorporating Arabic sounds in others.
There’s no booking, no RSVPs, no guest list, no preferences. Inspired by J. Cole’s one-dollar show, Mosalem is going back to basics: first-come, first-served. All you need is to show up early, with one pound in hand, to catch the show.
