This Lebanese Movie is the First Ever to Get Nominated For an Oscar

Finally, Lebanon has reached the Academy Awards and Arabs are ecstatic. The nominees for the 90th Academy Awards were announced earlier and people are already calling it the most inclusive Oscars. Ziad Doueiry’s “The Insult” was nominated Amongst four powerful movies that were made in Chile, Sweden, Hungary, and Russia, in the best foreign movie category.

This is first Oscar nomination a Lebanese movie has ever scored. Released earlier in September, “The Insult” was a massive box office hit in Beirut. The movie tells the story of an insult blown out of proportion, which leaves a Lebanese Christian and a Palestinian refugee in court. From secret wounds to traumatic revelations, the media circus surrounding the case puts Lebanon through a social explosion, forcing the protagonists to reconsider their lives and prejudices.
