Pictures have surfaced on the Egyptian Internet via Facebook user Eslam El-Refae claiming to be of Um Kolthoum. The pictures reveal a supposed side of kawkab al-sharq we’ve never seen before.

Apparently, there were lots of rumors and theories about Um Kolthoum’s sexuality during the time she was still alive. Even the well-renowned professor of literature Edward Said mentioned it in his book “Reflections on Exile and Other Essays,” but, of course, Kolthoum’s groundbreaking vocals echoed louder and overrode such gossip.
