Israeli Retaliation: Airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah Port Leave Dozens Injured
Killing 3 and injuring more than 80, Israeli airstrikes bombarded and struck the port of Hodeidah in Yemen, just a day after Yemeni Houthis attacked Tel Aviv.
Beyond Death, Other Repercussions
During the attack, the air strikes targeted oil facilities in the port and a power station where electrical installations were hit and sparked a huge fire. In doing so, they caused major damage not just to civilians but also to major facets of the port.
The Overriding Reason Behind The Attack
The big reason behind the attack was the death of a 50-year-old Israeli during the drone attack on Tel Aviv on Friday. According to Israeli officials, this is considered the first time that Israel struck Yemen.
Defense minister Yoav Gallant said, “The fire that is currently burning in Hodeidah is seen across the Middle East, and the significance is clear … The first time that they harmed an Israeli citizen, we struck them. And we will do this in any place where it may be required.”
Port Considered Not Innocent
Speaking up on Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Hodeidah was “not an innocent port.” According to him, the port is mainly used to bring weapons that are supplied by Houthis to Iran. Beyond that, he also claims that this very port was used to attack international shipping in the Red Sea.
The Fight For Palestine Lives On
Houthi rebels made it very clear that they will continue their operations against Israeli, American, and British ships until Israel stops its “siege” of Gaza.
