Last night, the moon passed at its closest point to Earth. For all you sky-gazers, you were in for a treat as a rare sight of the ‘super snow moon’ was in its full illumination. It was also visible early this morning to all UAE residents and other places around the world.

This year’s full moon was 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the regular moon; it was about 221,681 miles away from our Earth. Some took to social media to share visuals of the phenomenon, the visibility was excellent in the UAE capital, however, there was light rain in Ras Al-Khaimah and Sharjah on Tuesday evening.

The ‘snow moon’ gained its name due to the time of the year; as February is known to be the month where plenty of snowfall is usually seen across the world. This is actually the second time this year where the super moon was visible in the UAE, as the super blood wolf moon made an appearance a few weeks ago, in January.

Here are some snippets from last night’s super snow moon!

WE SAID THIS: A super moon is always an incredible celestial sight!
