Saudi epic ‘Desert Warrior’ is set to have its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival on September 28, 2025, marking one of Saudi Arabia’s biggest pushes into international cinema. Directed by Rupert Wyatt, this $150 million historical epic features Anthony Mackie, Aiysha Hart, Ben Kingsley, and a cast of Arab and international stars.

Set in 7th-century pre-Islamic Arabia, “Desert Warriors” tells the story of Hanzala, a noble yet enigmatic outlaw. He incurs the wrath of Emperor Kisra by helping a fugitive king and princess escape across the desert. As rival tribes unite, they prepare for the epic Battle of Ze Qar, a conflict poised to redefine the region.

Shot in 2021 in Saudi locales including Neom and Tabuk, the film overcame production delays and creative challenges. Supported by MBC Studios, JB Pictures, and AGC Studios, it signals Saudi Arabia’s growing capacity to produce high-budget features that stand toe-to-toe with global offerings.
