The FIFA World Cup Trophy landed in Egypt this week as part of its 267-day, 90-country tour sponsored by Coca-Cola.
Egypt is the 38th country on this year’s Trophy Tour and it’s only the second time that the golden cup has visited – the first was in 2010. It’s here for three days, culminating in the musical event of the year: an all-day festival at the pyramids, featuring some of the country’s top bands and artists.
Egyptian Sports and Youth Minister Taher Abu Zeid was there to greet the Coca-Cola Trophy Tour airplane when it arrived on Egyptian soil. His greeting for the trophy? “Welcome to the land of peace and love.”
Indeed.
Here’s a look, below, at the countries that the trophy has visited so far. From Egypt, the Trophy Tour will continue to Tunisia and the rest of Africa before going back to Brazil for a quick stop, then on to the Gulf countries.
