For those of you who don’t know what CISV is, it’s a global organization that is dedicated to educating and spreading peace around the whole world by building global friendships. Egypt has been blessed with CISV for the past 60 years. Every summer CISV sends a passionate group of young Egyptians to destinations all around the world, giving them the opportunity of their lives.
Here are eight reasons that explain the uniqueness and rareness of CISV in our Egyptian community.
It’s for everyone
The programs in CISV are designed to include different age groups. Participants can start to travel with CISV from the age of 11 and up, yet kids younger than 11 can still participate in local events that are extremely fun and enlightening.
Encourages you to become an active member in the community
CISV is a non-profit organization; in fact it is a volunteer based organization. Which means everyone who joins CISV, joins with the sole purpose of benefiting the community and helping build the young generation.
Learning by doing
If there’s one thing CISV focuses on doing, it is implementing the concept of ‘Learning by Doing’. This approach is simply a way of learning something from a direct experience, rather than learning from reading books or attending to lectures. It is an efficient way to spread peace education, since it makes the learning process fun and more memorable.
Its positive impact on Egypt has been going on for decades
For the past 60 years, CISVers have worked together to assist the Egyptian society. It always designs projects that are targeted to benefit the public and the community as a whole. This inspiring our nation to become better place. Last year for instance, CISV helped build a culture center for the Nubian people in Aswan.
The importance of diversity
This organization opens the eyes of our children that people can be very different form the outside. But no matter which corner of the world we come, we all want one thing at the end, which is to be understood. CISV demonstrates to us the importance of acceptance and teaches us how to put effort in understanding other cultures. Making our world a peaceful and considerate place.
Brings you out of your comfort zone
Participants of CISV are given the opportunity to travel the world, meet new people, try new food, and engage in adventurous experiences. So they are forced to get out of their comfort zone, take risks and experience wonderful new experiences.
Ups your social skills game
Building global friendship is not an easy task to do, yet with CISV it seems so easy and simple. CISV teaches you how to make friends with people who come from different backgrounds. The amount of social and communicative skills you can learn from CISV is astonishing.
It’s an experience of a lifetime!
Engaging in any CISV activity is life changing. It is different from what we do during a typical summer. The first time I traveled with CISV was in 2009, and until this very day, the experience has marked on my personality. It made a huge contribution to the person I am. It broke the stereotype I had about people from different cultures and it changed the way that I think. I currently have more than 100 global friends; from more than 30 different countries, and thanks to social media I am still in close contact with them. It was literally the best experience of my life and it continues to be.
