Canada has conducted its first direct humanitarian airdrop into Gaza, delivering 21,600 lbs of aid, as it intensifies criticism of Israel’s conduct — particularly over restrictions on humanitarian access.
On Monday, the Canadian government spoke about Israeli-imposed obstacles that have blocked aid agencies from operating effectively.
“This obstruction of aid is a violation of international humanitarian law and must end immediately,” as reported by Reuters.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, this marks the first time the Canadian Armed Forces have airdropped aid over Gaza using their own aircraft. Canada joined five other countries — Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Germany, and Belgium — in an international airdrop operation aimed at addressing the growing humanitarian catastrophe.
The move follows Canada’s announcement that it intends to formally recognize the State of Palestine at a UN meeting in September — a diplomatic shift that further increases pressure on Israel.
