#لا_للعنصرية Calls for an End to Racism in Egypt
With global attention now surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement in the States, a similar discontent and cry for significant change has made it’s way to Egypt. A post going viral on Nubian Knights Facebook page calls for an initiative calling for a societal reform of Egypt’s language of grotesque racism. Referring to Afro-Egyptians as ‘3abd’ or ‘zengi’ is not only a display of how backwards the country is in this day and age, it also provides ammunition to the rest of the world in proving how behind, and underdeveloped our Arab culture can be. The online campaign calls for Egypt to “call me by my name not by my color” taking a step forward in becoming the respectful and cultured community we should have grown to be long ago.
