Bird Flu Discovered in Riyadh But Fear Not, It Does Not Affect Humans
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture announced that H5N8 bird flu virus was discovered at a poultry farm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
However, the ministry quickly reassured the public that this virus poses no danger to human beings as it only affects birds.
This virus differs to the one that has been discovered in Vietnam, H5N6, as the latter is highly contagious, and can be easily transmitted among humans.
The outbreak killed 22,700 birds, and the other 385,300 birds in the flock were slaughtered, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said.
In other news, while the rest of the world struggles to control it, Saudi has remained free of the coronavirus!
