How This Beirut Nightclub Became an Unlikely Spot for Political Change

In a recent video, DJ Tala of The Grand Factory, one of the most popular Beirut nightclubs, shares with Refinery29 what deeply troubles the Lebanese. She discusses the political and social instability, even contradictions in how we perceive our country. She confesses the true dilemma of the Lebanese citizen, “We are very attached to Beirut in a very schizophrenic way, because one day we hate it and one day we love it. But it’s very hard to let it go.” No words could be truer.

As one of the founders of The Grand Factory, she believes that the team has accomplished a mission of creating a space to help restless Lebanese youth escape their everyday life and jump straight into a fantasy. At the same time, she knows we can’t turn a blind eye to the terrible things that are happening in our backyard, so they’ve taken steps to snap us back into reality in an impressive way. Watch the video till the end to learn about several initiatives for dealing with Lebanese current issues and “how this Beirut nightclub became an unlikely spot for political change.”
