The BBC Proms, or Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, just announced dates next spring at the Dubai Opera House. Fans of classical music in the region are excited to hear the news of this momentous event – this is only the second time in 122 years that the festival has left England.
Tickets go on sale this Thursday, November 3, for the four-day festival for as little as Dhs50. The Proms, in their entirety, is an eight-week summer event featuring daily orchestral concerts and events every year. The Dubai portion of the Proms will be held March 21-24, 2017.
Speaking to Dubai Eye, Dubai Opera’s CEO Jasper Hope said, “I’m delighted to announce the world’s largest and undeniably greatest classical music festival is coming to Dubai Opera next March. We are absolutely delighted. It is such as a famous event, an iconic thing, and we’re only the second ever country to host it outside the UK.”
WE SAID THIS: “[The Dubai shows] will represent a sample of what The Proms stands for, including local composers, world premieres and compositions, as well Mozart and Elgar; there will be the full range,” Hope said.
