We Asked Egyptian Muslims What Christmas Meant to Them
Christmas has been a big thing in Egypt for a few years now. Festive bazaars have been taking over our lives, everyone is inviting you to their Christmas dinner and showing off their massive but also very expensive tree. But before all of these things became the norm, what was before? We’ve decided to ask Egyptian Muslims what Christmas meant to them growing up, here’s what they said.
Nothing. I never celebrated Christmas growing up, but I do now and I freakin’ adore it. – Dina
I didn’t like Christmas that much growing up because I used to have my final exams around that time. – Tamer
Watching Home Alone while drinking hot chocolate is Christmas to me. – Mostafa
My childhood bestfriend who happened to be Christian used to invite me to her house on January 7th to have dinner with her family. I loved it. – Amira
School. I was in a French school and they took Christmas very seriously, and I’m glad they did. I now celebrate it with my kids. – Nada
I never really celebrated it growing up or as an adult because I don’t have to. I refuse to get sucked into everything that is considered cool. – Basma
Shopping! It means shopping to me because most shops have big sales on them. – Islam
Singing Christmas carols at school was my Christmas. I loved it so much. It made me feel so warm. – Salma
