And the Best Book Boyfriend of 2014 Is…
If you are one of the few Egyptians who follow book blogs, you would know that they are nothing about books and all about book boyfriends. Once a novel is released, the blogging world ends up in an estrogen-fueled frenzy where bloggers and followers instantly start digging for the perfect model/actor to star in the hypothetical book-inspired movie.
A book blog is like a Victoria’s Secret catalog minus the curvaceous angels and your eyes will only feast on devilishly handsome, fictional men.
I made a list for the avid romance readers to celebrate the 25 most swoon-worthy book boyfriends of 2014, showing you some photos of the men chosen by bloggers and readers. In advance, I apologize if I failed to mention or incorrectly rank that one fictional lover who touched you in ways no real man ever can.
25. Jamie – ‘Written In My Own Heart’s Blood’ (Outlander #8) by Diana Gabaldon
I know some women will threaten to harm me for ranking him last. I’m usually more into contemporary romances. James is driving women insane, the book won Best Romance in the Goodreads Choice Award 2014 and the TV show is doing great, so he easily nailed a spot on my list.
24. Wrath – ‘The King’ (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by J.R. Ward
A true Paranormal Romance lover would know that the Black Dagger Brotherhood series has the best vampire stories you will ever read. Forget about the Cullens’ sparkling skin and awkward stares, these vamps are the real deal.
Some of their names are Phurry, Zsadist, Rhage, Rehvenge, Tehrror, Tohrment and they are just as disturbed as their names would suggest. Wrath, our blind king, the last pure blooded vampire, came in at 24 because my all-time favorite vampire will forever be Zsadist and I refuse to betray him. Too bad we met before 2014.
23. Colton – ‘Crashed’ (Driven #3) by K. Bromberg
If you fantasize about race car drivers who are alpha jerks, man-whores and suffer from emotional pain rooted so deep due to a sordid past who just need some TLC to be tamed, then Colton is your boy. This series has great cliffhangers that will drive you insane.
22. Daemon – ‘Opposition’ (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This author is the queen of Paranormal Romances. She can write a grocery list and still keep you on your toes. Daemon is an extraterrestrial stud who falls in love with a girl from the forbidden species. Taboo romances never get old and I will always have them on my lists.
21. Jimmy – ‘Lead’ (Stage dive #3) by Kylie Scott
Has anyone heard of anything hotter than a lead singer of a rock band falling in love with his nerdy assistant? Nerds of the world rejoice, Adam Levine is a potential lover after all.
20. Elec – ‘Stepbrother Dearest’ by Penelope Ward
A messed up, swoon-worthy, protective step brother in a taboo, angsty romance. This is a very engaging read and Elec is perfection.
19. Josh – ‘Full Measures’ by Rebecca Yarros
This is such a painful yet beautiful story that sheds a genuine light on families left behind after soldiers leave for war and the impact that has on every decision they have to make. It’s a heart-aching, war-related story that will definitely leave you crying in bed.
18. Declan, Pike and Bennett – ‘Bang’ (Black lotus #1) by E.K. Blair
Love triangles are so 2013; now, we have a sinful love square that has three absurdly amazing men and one stunning, yet conniving and vengeful, woman. This is one hell of a story and I need the next book of the series NOW.
17. Ansel – ‘Sweet Filthy Boy (Wild Seasons #1) by Christina Lauren
A young French man gets drunk in Vegas and marries a girl he just met – the only difference in this cliché is he doesn’t want an annulment. Ansel has the most captivating lines in the history of books and simply takes the French lover to a whole other level.
16. Miller “M” – ‘Promised’ (One Night #1) by Jodie Ellen Malpas
This author gave us the best book boyfriend the world has ever known, Jesse Ward. Now her new trilogy has a new enigmatic, temperamental and possessive alpha male with secrets no woman can ever handle. He is rated 16th because we still haven’t fully understood his story; however, he still managed to leave us fanning our faces.
15. Roth and Zayne – ‘Stone Cold Touch’ (The Dark Elements #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The queen of paranormal romances strikes again, this time with gargoyles and demons. This love triangle is so intense that the author actually is letting us, the readers, decide who the heroine chooses.
Almost everyone wants her to end up with Roth, the demon, but I say give Zayne, the good boy, or should I say the gargoyle, a chance. I would have loved to rank them higher; however, the next 14 fictional men took over my life.
14. Andrew – “Reasonable Doubt” by Whitney Garcia Williams
I have always hated novellas. They are too short, they don’t consume me and I always end up wanting more. That was until I read “Reasonable Doubt”. This is such an intense read, straight to the point, showing a rough and fresh relationship between a lawyer with inner demons and his online lover.
If you are too busy with no time for books, I beg you to check out this fast read. You’ll thank me later.
13. Carson – ‘Poles Apart’ by Kirsty Moseley
Kirsty Moseley is one of my favorite authors. I am obsessed with her books; she doesn’t have a single bad one. Her book boyfriends are exceptional men and Carson is no different.
This is a beautiful love story, but I feel obliged to tell everyone about the first Moseley book I ever read: The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window. It is capital-P Perfection, a guaranteed tear-jerker and unforgettable; a love story that will give you hope in a cruel world.
12. Ignazio Vitale – ‘Monster In His Eyes’ by J.M Darhower
Ignazio is mysterious and dangerous man. He has a monster lurking in the deep pits of his soul. He has a family vendetta. Too bad he fell in love with his target.
11. Miles – ‘Ugly Love’ by Colleen Hoover
Collen Hoover had an incredible year. This book was such a success that women filled blogs and Hoover’s page with photos of men worthy of playing Miles. The one guy who dominated the internet was Nick Bateman, Canadian model and actor.
Guess what happened next? He nailed the role, showing the magnificence of committed fans and the power of social media.
10. Jethro – ‘Debt Inheritance’ by Pepper Winters
Jethro gets a girl as an inheritance present for his 29th birthday. She is obliged to pay a century-old debt. He can do whatever he wants to her. Too bad for Nila, our anti-hero plans on breaking her first.
My disturbed Jethro deserved a higher rank, but we still haven’t read the full series, so I’ll settle for men who are fully understood.
9. Mr. Daniels – ‘Loving Mr. Daniels’ by Brittainy C. Cherry
I love teacher/student affairs. They are the epitome of taboo romances. This is a novel about two tormented and equally shattered souls who find solace in the one person who was never meant to be.
This is one of the best books of this kind in addition to Slammed by Colleen Hoover and Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard.
8. Brant and Lee – ‘Black Lies’ by Alessandra Torre
This is the book of the year, it brings something completely different to the table and the only thing I have to say is WOW. A MUST READ.
7. Hudson – ‘Fixed On You’ by Laurelin Paige
Hudson is a bad boy who puts every other bad guy to shame. A stalker and a manipulator fall in love with catastrophic consequences. This is the definition of a dysfunctional romance.
6. Calder – ‘Becoming Calder’ (A Sign Of Love) by Mia Sheridan
This is the story of a brainwashed cult, a boy with a god’s body and a lion’s heart, and an angelic girl who is made to think she is a heaven-sent savior. The boy dares to dream of more and the girl wants what she will never have.
Calder is every girl’s dream boy. This is an incredible series about two courageous lovers who dare to want more.
5. Ridge – ‘Maybe Someday’ by Colleen Hoover
No doubt Ridge is almost every girl’s number one and, honestly, he would deserve it. This story is heart-wrenching, with some powerful scenes. Hoover writes the best dialogues that would shatter you. This is my second best book of the year.
4. Archer – ‘Archer’s Voice’ (A Sign Of Love) by Mia Sheridan
Archer is a silent man with an excruciating secret. He will capture your heart and make you want to re-read this book for months. He is shy, mysterious, misunderstood, powerful, yet beautifully broken.
This novel will make you believe in the healing power of love. Mia Sheridan just can’t go wrong with a man.
3. Twitch – ‘Raw’ (Raw Family #1) by Belle Aurora
“Author’s note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.” Well, she couldn’t have said it better. Our boyfriend, Twitch, stalks a girl during the day and sneaks in at night next to her in bed to comfort her from nightmares.
This is a case of sending your creepy stalker love letters instead of a restraining order. Judge me all you want, but this raging villain swept me off my feet. I won’t even mention the ending because it did a real number on me.
Twitch is a fierce and dangerous lover who comes with a warning label, but women all over the world couldn’t stay away from his dark and twisted ways. Life molds us into who we are and our third lover in 2014 is a raw product of life.
2. Quinton – ‘Saving Quinton’ by Jessica Sorensen
If you are a lost soul, trying to find your way back, Quinton is your new affair. With a chest tattoo as a reminder of how he ruined his existence and intense, honey brown eyes that remind her of her long-lost soul mate, Quinton is one of the few fictional boys who left me sobbing and needing someone to braid my hair while telling me it’s okay.
He is too damaged for her, yet she is determined to save them both. This story takes you to a world of suicide and drug addiction where your heart aches and cracks.
Quinton believes he is only worthy of a dark and dangerous life. His selflessness is outstanding; he is in no way your regular lover. When you are that consumed by an imaginary guy, he comes second on your list.
1. Ehd – ‘Transcendence’ by Shay Savage
I came across this phenomenal story while voting on the Goodreads Choice Awards 2014. It intrigued me as a semi-finalist that I have never heard of it. Ten hours and two burning eyes later, I realized this is a book that stays with you forever.
Ehd is caveman, literally. The story takes place in prehistoric times, when he lost his clan at a young age and survived alone for years. One day he found a woman from a different world in one of his traps, who soon became his entire purpose in life.
The book has no dialogue except for maybe 10 blabbered words. It is all body language narrated in Ehd’s point of view. However, it is far from boring and that comes from a reader who skips paragraphs and jumps to dialogues in every book.
The pure, primitive and mind-game free love is unlike anything you will ever read. Ehd deserves the recognition Ridge, Miles, Twitch and Archer are getting. He is the underdog no one saw coming. Alpha males: Read and learn.
WE SAID THIS: Don’t miss 7 Book Boyfriends to Love after Christian Grey.
